NUT backs re-training of members for efficiency

FCT wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has assured of its readiness to support the re-training of teachers.
Its Chairman, Comrade Stephen Knabayi, said re-training of the teachers would make them discharge their function more efficiently.
Knabayi, who disclosed this yesterday at Teachers House, Gwagwalada, noted that the leadership of the union would continue to give its members a sense of belonging, especially in area of their welfare.
He urged governments and various stakeholders in the education sector to provide necessary facilities for the conduct of electronic teaching.
According to him, the scheme is aimed at enhancing quality teaching in primary and secondary schools across the nation’s capital.
The NUT chairman called on those wishing to join the teaching profession to acquire the required qualifications, just as he reiterated the position of the union against recruitment of quackery.
He said FCT administration as a matter of urgency should solve the challenges being faced by staff of the Local Education Authority (LEA) of delay in the payment of their salaries, promotion and their entitlements as at when due.
The chairman warned members against indolence and lack of commitment to work, urging them to show dedication to their primary assignment with a view to improving the standard of education.
On teachers’ welfare, he noted that his leadership had been working to give members a sense of belonging.
