Accreditation team from the National Universities Commission (NUJ) Abuja has visited Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin to access the institution’s level of readiness for the take off her proposed Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme.
The team’s visit came few weeks after the authority of the university signed a10-year memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Kwara state government for the use of Sobi Specialist Hospital Ilorin for the training of medical students of its College of Health and Allied Health Sciences.
The development was also coming just as the first faith-based university in Nigeria is set to unveil activities to mark the 20 years of her establishment.
Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor of the university and chairman 20th anniversary ceremonials committee, Dr Sikiru Nurudeen, disclosed this in an interview with select journalists in his office, Tuesday.
He said “The university has grown from a population of 70 students from inception to about 12,000 with no fewer than 50 regular and part time accredited programmes.”
Nuruden said though the NUC was yet to make its report public on the proposed MBBS programme, he quoted the Vice Chancellor, Professor Noah Yusuf, as saying the visiting team were delighted with the level of preparation made by the university.
He said that the university is leveraging on technology to drive its programmes and ensure smooth administration
On the proposed 20th anniversary of the institution, the deputy vice chancellor said the ceremony will be a twin one as the university will also be holding her 14th convocation ceremonies.
