Plateau state Commissioner of Information and Communications, Malam Nazif Ahamd, has tasked the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) on television contents of Nigeria’s image.
The commissioner gave the task yesterday in his office, when he received the Voice of America (VOA) Hausa service managing editor, Aliyu Mustapha, in company of heads of media organisations in the state.
The media team were in his office to present documentary series, produced by VOA to sensitise Nigerians on the ravaging consequences of Boko Haram insurgents in the North east.
The commissioner, who asked “where is the NTA which is the leading broadcast media organisation in Nigeria?” advised the media organisation not to allow VOA and other foreign media to reflect our image, noting that “NTA must lead other local media to reshape the nation’s media industry.”
The commissioner said NTA and other media outfits should also come up with series of documentaries and programmes that will help to sensitise Nigerians and also curb the menace of herders and famers clashes, “which if left to go on as it is, will create problems similar to that of Boko Haram.”
“Our education system should be fashioned in a way as to make our youths self employed, rather than just training them to wait for employment with the government,” he said.
VOA managing editor, Aliyu Mustapha, told journalists that they produced the documentary based on the facts available to them, saying “The aim is to sensitise and create awareness among Nigerians to be able to know what to do in situations like that of the Boko Haram.”
Mustapha appealed for support and cooperation the government
and people of the state to VOA correspondent and other media entities in the state in order foster peace and development.
