NSE seeks FERMA’s support on engineering challenges

The President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr. Tasiu Sa’ad Gidari Wudil has sought the support of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) on the challenges confronting the engineering profession.

A statement issued in Abuja by the FERMA’s Director/Head of Communications and Public Relations, Hajia Maryam M. Sanusi, said Wudil made the call during a recent visit to the agency’s Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Nuruddeen A. Rafindadi.

Wudil, who was accompanied on the visit by the executive committee members of the Maitama branch of NSE, said the Society was established to cater to the welfare and professional development of its members, as well as make meaningful contributions to the advancement of the profession in Nigeria.

He noted that the Maitama branch of the NSE was established in 2010 to further propel the course of NSE across the country.

“NSE Maitama branch has set out four major areas of concentration during their administration in line with the NSE mandate. These four areas include the formation of the committee, training of staff, training/workshop for professional development, providing solutions for engineering community using innovation and embarking on welfare activities”, he said.

He enjoined the engineering staff of the agency that double as members of NSE to show more support, be active members, and contribute immensely to the achievement of the society’s mandate.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Maitama branch, Engr. Henry Okoye said the NSE Maitama branch will need the support, guidance, and partnership of the MD/CEO in the aspect of training/workshop and community engineering, employment/mentorship of young engineers in procurement, and also evaluation.

He also requested the presence of Engr. Rafindadi at a technical lecture during the monthly meeting of the Maitama branch.

Okoye commended the MD/CEO of FERMA’s accomplishments over the years, which he said, had promoted his leadership skills.

He also congratulated the MD/CEO on his latest recognition and conferment as the Officer of the Federal Republic by President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR.

Okoye also presented an award for distinguished leadership to the MD/CEO of FERMA.

Responding, FERMA MD said he was delighted to receive the President of NSE alongside the executive committee members of the Maitama branch.

According to him, FERMA considered the Nigeria Society of Engineers as the top partner of the agency because it executes its major mandate with the expertise of engineers.

He said FERMA is also keen about updating and training engineers and would also ensure maximum participation of her engineering staff across the country.

Rafindadi added that FERMA is always open for partnership at all levels, particularly with other cooperate bodies which share a similar mandate with the Agency.

He, however, assured that the engineers who are in charge of FERMA’s offices across the country, those in FERMA’s road camp and observation camps would be very supportive when called upon by the NSE.
