Activities on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) opened in bullish trend as equity value improved by N71 billion.
Market capitalisation of listed equities grew by 0.57% to N12.582 trillion from N12.511 trillion traded on Friday. Also the NSE All share index went up by 220.29 basis points to 39172.76 point from 38952.47 points recorded the previous day.
A review of the transactions for the day showed that investors bought 383.275 million shares worth N2.727 billion in 4625 deals against 342.186 million share valued at N3.219 billion in 4138 deals.
Nigerian Breweries led the gainers table, gaining N3.41 kobo to close at N149.50 kobo. Guaranty Trust Bank followed with a gain of N1.01 kobo to close at N26.00, while Stanbic IBTC and PZ Cussons and Okomu Oil appreciated by N0.71 kobo, N0.51 kobo and N0.50 kobo respectively to close at N21.25 kobo, N35.50 kobo and N41.55 kobo.
Nestle Nigeria Plc topped losers chart, shedding N9.15 kobo to close at N1026.35 kobo. Conoil trailed with a loss of N1.12 kobo to close at N48.00, while Glaxosmith declined by N0.70 kobo to close at N70.00.
Other stocks that recorded price depreciation were Dangote Cement and Port Land Paint which fell by N0.54 kobo and N0.27 kobo respectively to close at N236.86 kobo and N5.13 kobo.
Financial Service sector led the daily activities during the day in volume terms, exchanging 316.222 million shares valued at N1.570 billion in 2661 deals. Insurance subsector was most active in the sector accounting for 177.550 million share worth N138.523 million in 201 deals.
NEM Insurance was the toast of investors as it traded 164.043 million shares valued at N126.546 million in 26 deals. Banking subsector which was enhanced by Access Bank and GTBank came second in the sub sector with account of 103.928 million shares valued at N1.128 billion in 1581 deals.
Conglomerate sector followed in daily activity with a total of 29.744 million shares valued at N170.592 million in 309 deals. Transnational Corporation of Nigeria was investors delight with a total of 28.908 million shares valued at N115.908 million in 252 deals.
