NSCDC nabs illegal mining supervisor in Niger

The operatives of the National Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) have arrested a supervisor of a company involving in illegal mining activities in Niger state.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Corps in Niger state, Ibrahim Yahaya, stated this in a statement issued in Minna.
He said that the state command of NSCDC had begun clamp down on illegal miners in the state in conjunction with the federal ministry of mines in the state.
“During one of the raids, the command arrested  a supervisor of one illegal mining company by name JONGAZA INVESTMENT LTD, while carrying out illegal activities in Sauka- Kahuta along Goodluck Jonathan road Minna”, he said.

He explained that the same company was believed to have other illegal mining sites across three local governments, including Sarkin Pawa in Munya local government and Shiroro local governments.
He said that documents seized from the company have been sent to Federal Ministry of Mines for verification and that if found wanting, the owners of the company would be prosecuted accordingly.
Dauda said the command in conjunction with the department of petroleum resources have also arrested two trucks for illegal diversion of petroleum product, adding that after all necessary investigation the trucks were made to offload the product to the filling station it was meant for.
He said that the owner of the trucks was made to sign an undertaking not to indulge in such act again.
He said that the state commandant, Philip Ayuba, was determined to continue the clamp down on any illegal mining site in the state adding that anyone caught degrading the land illegally will be prosecuted.
