
The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions Rivers United have successfully ended the unbeaten run of Insurance FC after recording a hard-fought 2-1 victory at the ongoing Playoffs in Lagos.
Maurice Chukwu scored in the 45th minute to give Rivers United the lead just before the referee ended the first half.
Joseph Onoja made it for the NPFL champions in the 90th minute, new Super Eagles invitee Divine Nwachukwu scored in the additional minute to reduce the deficit for Bendel Insurance for his 3rd goal of the playoffs
It was the first defeat of the season in all competitions, prior to the defeat, Bendel Insurance were unbeaten in 21 NPFL games and 26 games in all competitions including the Federation Cup.
With the victory recorded, Rivers United remain on course to retaining the NPFL title with just one match day to the end of the playoffs.
They have also been guaranteed a spot in any of the CAF club competitions next season.
