NPFL: Rangers close gap on table toppers

NPFL defending champions, Rangers International of Enugu Sunday evening at the Nnamd Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu defeated visiting Rivers United by a lone goal to close gap on the log leaders.

The Fidelis Ilechukwu tutored side extended its unbeaten run this term to nine matches.

The defending champions got the better of the Pride of Rivers via captain Chinemerem Ugwueze’s winner inside 15 minutes.

In Jos, Plateau United came from a goal down to beat visiting Heartland FC in a thrilling match day 16 of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League.

Plateau United took the lead courtesy of an early goal from Sunday Anthony, who headed home off Daniel Itodo’s long throw-in.

However, a second half brace by Tobi Iyanda in the 53rd and 57th minutes gave the Naze Millionaires the lead before Sunday Anthony restored parity in the 69th minute. The winner came at the death via Mafeng Pam to give Plateau United the maximum points. 

Kano Pillars defeated Katsina United one-nil while Abia Warriors got the better of Niger Tornadoes 2-1 in Umuahia. 

Bayelsa United left it late to beat Ikorodu City FC by a lone goal as Remo Stars beat El-Kanemi Warriors 2-0 in Ikenne. 

On Saturday, Shooting Stars secured the maximum points off Sunshine Stars in the South-West derby away from home while Nasarawa United beat struggling Lobi Stars by a lone goal in the North Central derby.
