NPFL: Imo SWAN plead for Heartland

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Imo state chapter has urged the state government to take urgent steps  to check the dismal performances of Heartland FC of Owerri in the on going Nigeria Professional Football League(NPFL)campaign.

In a Communique issued by Imo SWAN after it’s Congress , it called for the immediate intervention of the state government as it concerned release of funds to the team to address several issues facing the club, particularly, commencement of installment payment of the debt owed the former player of the team, a Brazilian,Santos Da Costa Ivo Jorge to halt the FIFA ban and to enable Heartland have the latitude to sign new players.

The Association also frowned at the current accommodation of players in an hotel instead of in a club camp where the activities of players could be monitored and the clandestine move by some individuals to reduce the number of players currently in camp, instead of following the global best practice of having a stated number of players to prosecute the league or any competition in a football season.

While urging government to hasten the completion of work at the Dan Anyiam stadium Owerri to make it befitting for  the club  matches, members called for immediate halt  to the interference by the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Social Development and other agencies of government in the running of the club and  allow the club’s General Manager to run it as stipulated by law.

Finally, they urged the technical crew to live up to expectations and give the football  stakeholders in the state the much needed results regularly.
