Kwara United fell 3-0 to Rangers, the defending champions in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 29 clash on Saturday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Stadium, Enugu.
The hosts struck early, with Chedozie Okorie capitalising on a counterattack in the first minute to give his team the lead.
The early setback rattled the Harmony Boys, and they struggled to contain the attacking pressure. In the 29th minute, Isaac Saviour doubled the advantage, again from a counterattack.
Despite settling into the game under the scorching Enugu heat, Kwara United found it difficult to break through the defensive line of the reigning champions. Their hopes of a second-half resurgence were dashed in the 55th minute when Frank Uminro sealed the hosts’ victory with a third goal.
Reacting to the defeat, Kwara United head coach, Tunde Sanni, expressed disappointment over the costly mistakes made by his top players.
“This is unbelievable. This is not the same team that played against Kano Pillars last weekend. We committed too many errors, especially from key players,” he lamented.
Sanni assured fans that the team would address the errors ahead of upcoming fixtures.
Kwara United now shifts focus to the President Federation Cup Round of 64 against Cynosure FC on Wednesday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin.
