NOUN VC launches new e-Exam application

By Martin Paul Abuja Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Professor Abdalla Uba Adamu, has launched a newly introduced application for the institution’s e-Exam exercises.

Th e new application, expected to be deployed for the upcoming e-Exam, was developed by the Directorate of Information System of the university. Th is was contained in a statement issued Monday by the university’s Director, Media and Publicity, Ibrahim Sheme. Declaring a workshop on the initiative open, the vicechancellor explained that the exercise was meant to expose the staff to the modus operandi of new application.

Adamu, who said theworkshop was jointly organised by the trio of MIS, ICT and Examinations and Assessment directorates, “will serve as another milestone in the university’s quest for independence from the erstwhile outsourcing services.” He urged the trainees to criticise and make their input in the application as a way of further making it ideal for the subsequent e-Exams. Th e innovation, Adamu said, was never used before in the university, and stressed the need to appraise its strengths and weaknesses at the workshop. Th e VC was fl anked at the event by the university’s Registrar, Mr. Felix Edoka; Bursar, Mr. Ernest Odeigha, and Librarian, Dr Adam Gambo Saleh.

Th e Head of the Department of Computer Science and the hosts, the directors of MIS, ICT and the acting director of DEA were all present. Making his opening remarks, the director of ICT, Dr Madu Galadima, said the exercise was meant to expose the staff with the new module. He said by the introduction of the new application, the cost of sending staff for the e-Exam would be curtailed, even as it would eradicate some challenges. On his part, the director of MIS, Dr Muhtar Alhassan, commended his staff for their dedication in coming up with the innovation.
