Founder and General Overseer of Royal Tabernacle Ministries International, East London South Africa, Pastor Emmanuel Donkey yesterday said “there is nothing wrong with Christians being involved in politics”.
He stated this while speaking on the topic “Christians and Politics”, at a programme organised by Oyo state Pastors’ League during its maiden conference and thanksgiving service for the re-election of the state governor.

According to the South African-based pastor, Christians willing to go into active politics in the nearest future were free to do so, saying, “there is no chapter in the Bible that kicked against involvement of Christians in politics as ambassadors of Christ on earth”.
The pastor emphasised that any Christian wishing to participate in politics should do so with their conscience and in line with the provisions of the scripture, saying the relationship between Christianity and politics was historically complex subject and a frequent source of disagreement throughout the history of Christianity as well as modern politics.

“In the Old Testament, we saw the likes of Saul and David operating as kings installed by God and accepted by men, from my panoramic point of view, I see these kings as operating in political capacities.
“We also saw how Daniel found favour before the king and concurrently, was given a political position. Our form of government was never intended to change society, it is incapable of producing morality through legislation, it may help retrain immorality, but only if the church has established a moral foundation in the hearts of men and women who govern.
