The Northern Senators Forum has commended President Bola Tinubu for ordering the release of minors paraded at the Federal High Court Abuja by the Nigeria Police on Friday last week.
Arraignment of the minors before Justice Obiora Egwuatu by the Police last Friday, attracted condemnations from Nigerians in and outside the country and calls for their immediate release.
President Tinubu on the strength of the condemnations and call for release of the minors who have spent more than three months in detention, ordered for their immediate release on Monday in Abuja as announced by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris Malagi.
Elated by the directive, the Northern Senators’ Forum through a statement signed by its CHAIRMAN, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, commended President Tinubu for the action and called on Northern leaders to prioritise the safety and education of children
The statement reads: “On behalf of the Northern Senators Forum, I wish to most respectfully commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR for his prompt action in ordering the release of minors arrested and detained during the #EndBadGovernance protests.
“This decision demonstrates the president’s commitment to protecting the rights and well-being of Nigeria’s youth.
“By his directive to the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi to expedite the release process, this is a welcome development, and we appreciate the president’s leadership in addressing this critical issue.
“I would also like to acknowledge the efforts of leaders in the North who have worked tirelessly to secure the release of these minors.
“Their dedication and advocacy have been instrumental in bringing this matter to the forefront, and we are grateful for their commitment to the welfare of our young people.
“As we move forward, I urge leaders in the North to prioritize the safety and education of our children. It is essential that we create an environment where they can grow and thrive, free from harm and exploitation.”
