As the communities in Sokoto, Zamfara and Katsina states celebrate Eid el-Fitir without any record of bandits attack, a group on the aegis of Northern Elders Political Development, Wednesday, praised President Bola Ahmed Tinibu , Minister of State for Defence, Mohammed Bello Matawalle and Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, for their efforts to contain security challenges in the North-west region.

This was contained in a press statement issued to newsmen in Sokoto by secretary of the group, Dr Adamu Lawal Giwa.

It further noted that majority of the towns and villages in the region celebrated Eid el-Fitri peacefully, without a pocket of bandits’ attack.

Dr. Adamu attributed the success recorded to the unwavering commitment of President Bola Tinibu and active support of Minister Matawalle, coupled with the determination of the Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, who coordinated the security to confront bandits under “Operation Fansa Yamma”.

The Operation Fansan Yamma targeted bandit enclaves in the Northwest and subdued them.

“This had significantly reduced security challenges as  communities are now safe, farmers go to their farmlands and traders also go to markets without fear.

“Roads, especially in Sokoto, Gusau Funtua to Kano which hitherto was dreaded and prone for bandit activities is now  safe,” the elders stated.

Another key achievement mentioned by the group include: a decrease in reported sighting of large groups of bandits attacking or kidnapping people.

The military’s efforts have led to success in operations against banditry, especially in Zamfara, Sokoto, and Katsina states.

“Measures taken under ‘Fansa Yamma’ have yielded positive results, reducing kidnapping and attacks by bandits in many villages,” he stated.

The group commended Matawalle’s continuous support to the troops, which boosted their morale.

“The improved security has brought hope to people, especially during and after the Ramadan fasting period. It is essential to appreciate the efforts of the military leadership and those sacrificing their lives to protect people from bandits,” the group added.
