The National Orientation Agency (NOA), Yobe state office, Thursday, launched stakeholders’ community awareness campaign on preventive measures on Lassa fever, cholera and cerebro-spinal meningitis.
The enlightenment campaign took place at the palace of the district head of Bulabulin in Nayi-Nawa community of Damaturu local government area of Yobe state.
The public enlightenment campaign for the preventive measures was attended by officials of NOA, representatives of UNICEF,WHO, health experts, traditional leaders, community members, NURTW, corps members as well as journalists.
The director, NOA, Yobe state office, Ali Audu, said the awareness campaign became necessary considering that the state is approaching heat season expected to last from February to April.
He noted that the campaign is going to cover the 17 local government areas of the state, hence the need for the community members that notices such sign and symptoms stated by the health experts should go to the nearest heath care facility for appropriate action.
During the campaign, Dr Adamu Mu’azu, of the State Specialist Hospital in Damaturu, representative of UNICEF, among others health experts spoke extensively on sign and symptoms of Lassa fever which include headache, sore throat, back pain, chest pain, cough, general body pain, vomiting, fever, diarrhea, stomach pain, among others.
They said cholera signs and symptoms include; diarrhea, vomiting, and weakness among others.
