No preferred candidates for Anambra governorship, senatorial, assembly elections – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Wednesday, assured the electorate that the umpire had no preferred candidates for nambra state gubernatorial, Senatorial and House of Assembly polls.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Anambra state, Dr Queen Elizabeth Agwu, who disclosed this at a media interaction in Awka, assured all candidates and political parties a level playing ground.

Agwu had recalled that Anambra gubernatorial poll would hold on November 8, 2025 while adding that deaths of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah of Anambra South District and Hon. Justice Azuka of Onitsha North 1 State Constituency had created vacancies for two more elections.

According to her, the commission would provide enabling environments for all the aspirants, candidates and political parties to participate actively in the elections just as they would allow eligible voters to vote candidates of their choice following the INEC guidelines and electoral Act.

She added that the commission would redeploy the necessary manpower and resources for the election once the guidelines were made available.

“We will give all the candidates equal rights and opportunities to participate in the elections. INEC have no preferred candidates. We will allow Nigerians; all the eligible voters in Anambra State to choose who they wish to govern or represent them,” she noted.

She, therefore, enjoined the electorate to come out en-masse and participate actively in all the processes leading to the conduct of the election, including voters revalidation and others when commenced.
