No crisis in Enugu PDP – Official

Enugu state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has debunked the report purporting that crisis was looming in the party.

A chieftain of the party in Oji River Local Government Area,  Mr. Sunday Ikechukwu Damian, had alleged, among other things, that a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Anayo Onwuegbu, was plotting to remove elected ward executives and replace them with his preferred candidates.

But reacting to the allegation in a statement by the PDP state publicity secretary, Chief Uche Obute, the party described the report as the figment of the imagination of the opposition elements and mischief makers.

It noted that the state executive committee recently inaugurated the newly elected executives of the party at both local government and ward levels and that no such attempts by anyone was made to remove the democratically elected executives.

The statement reads: “Having gone through the report, our initial reaction as a political party, was to ignore it, as responding to it would give the propagandists a sense of relevance.

“However, having considered the damage our silence may cause to the unsuspecting public and our teeming members, especially those of Oji River local government area of the state, we decided to debunk the unfounded, unsubstantiated and malicious lies.

“First of all, we want to state that there is no crisis of any kind in any of the organs of our great party in the state, including that of Oji River LGA.

“The report claiming a crisis is imminent in the Enugu PDP is nothing but a baseless allegation orchestrated by opposition elements and mischief makers. This report is a clear attempt to sow seeds of discord and chaos within the party ranks.

“It is essential to note that the Enugu PDP is a cohesive unit, and there is no crisis or division within the party. The party leadership, under the chairmanship of Dr. Martin Chukwunweike, has been working harmoniously with all stakeholders to promote the party’s interests.

“It is only in the figment of his imagination that Mr. Sunday Ikechukwu Damian, will be making such reckless allegations”.

The party, therefore, urged the general public to disregard the report and see it for what it is,  “a desperate attempt by opposition elements to create confusion and undermine the party’s unity”.
