The Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation(NNPC) in conjunction with Seplat Energy has concluded its five- day eye examination and treatment exercise in Imo state.
Tagged ” Eye can see,” the medical exercise took place at Full Moon Hotel, Owerri, the Imo state capital, with not less than 5,000 patients examined and surgeries on cataract, glaucoma and other diseases were carried out and treated, while drugs and reading glasses were given to those that needed them in addition to checking of blood pressure, sugar level and other health conditions.
In his welcome address, the Commissioner for Petroleum and Natural Gas Development, Emeka Mgbudum Esq, expressed confidence that with the partnership between NNPC and Seplat Energy, Imo people would move to the next level as they have shown their interest in human development, especially in health care, adding that the exercise was not only for “eye to see” but to ” have vision” for something.
He described Seplat Energy as the best oil company in the state that the state government was pleased with and hoped that the quiz competitions which the company planned to organise for secondary school pupils would go a long way in preparing students for external examinations like NECO and WAEC, after which scholarships would be given to them for higher education.
In his own address, the Chief Upstream Investment Officer of the NNPC, Bala Wunti represented by the Assets Manager of NNPC, Obinna Otu said the NNPC and Seplat worked in partnership to make impact on people’s lives, adding that the “eye can see” free health exercise had provided a lifeline to the people of the state in terms of their eye problems.
