Nnaji optimistics D’Tigress can retain title

Nigeria’s women’s national basketball team coach, Scot Nnaji, is cock sure that D’Tigress can win a third African title when the 2017 Women’s Afrobasket Competition scheduled for 18th to the 27th of August dunks off in Bamako, Mali in the West Africa sub region. The Nigeria Basketball Federation has released a squad list of 22 players invited to the training camp ahead of the competition, and Nnaji admits the experienced side will surpass its third place finish in 2015.

“The squad has a good blend of youth and experience, so I’m confident that the team can conquer Africa again,” Nnaji said Nigeria’s women’s team are drawn in Group B along with Egypt, DR Congo, Guinea, Senegal and Mozambique. Nnaji’s side will face Mozambique in their opening game on the 18th of August followed by games against Congo DR, Egypt, Guinea and Senegal daily. The invited players are; Helen Ogunjimi, Sarah Ogoke, Elonu Adaora, Ndidi Madu, Sarah Imovbioh, Ibiam Elem, Uju Ugoka, Joyce Ekworomadu, Ezinne Kalu, Promise Amukamara, Olayinka Sanni, Ugochi Nwaigwe, Ifunanya Ibekwe, Evelyn Akhator, Atosu Upe, Chioma Udeaja,Nkechi Akashili, Nkem Akaraiwe, Gloria Umeh, Ebere Okeke, Elawere Odion Tina and Christiana Isaac. The camp which opens on the 23rd July 2017 will be supervised by a threeman coaching staff headed by Scott Nnaji. He will be assisted by Mauro Procaccini and Kwara Falcons` Adewunmi Aderemi. Meanwhile, players from the Zenith Women`s Basketball League are expected to join the camp immediately after the Final Eight Playoffs.
