NLC charts new course in Rivers

As part of efforts to take the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to the next level, the Rivers state council yesterday held quadrennial delegate conference to elect officers to pilot its affairs for the next four years.
The state delegate conference reviews the activities of the union in every four years and evaluates programmes of the council and conscientiously deliberate likewise to take decisions on the way forward for the congress.

In his speech, the Rivers state chairman of NLC, Mr Chris Oruge, said for the past four years, the leadership as epitomised by Governor Rotimi Amaechi had continued to open new areas of hope for the Rivers man, stressing that the renewed vigour and enthusiasm of the administration had clearly shown commitment concerning the Rivers dream also with the ultimate goal of enthroning people oriented and sustainable development.

Oruge said a nation of our dream can only be achieved if remain dedicated, committed and discharge its duties with sense of patriotism.
He lamented that the congress recently conducted its national elections even though not free and fair in some states, but produced new leaders.
The chairman explained that check-off dues of the public sector has not been paid since January till date adding it had set back some union backward especially in the area of salary payment and appealed to the state government before handover.
