NIS suspends 2 over human trafficking

Following an alleged attempt by two officer of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja, to aid and abet trafficking of some persons abroad, the Comptroller General, Muhammad Babandede has ordered their suspension from duties with immediate effect.

The two suspended personnel are Araoyinbo Oluwadare and Awosanmi Taiwo Gabriel.

A statement issued yesterday in Abuja by NIS spokesman, Sunday James, stated that the suspension was in line with service rules and regulations.

“The suspension is to allow for detailed investigations into the issue with a view to unravelling their level of culpability and indeed other syndicates involved in the act.

“The Comptroller General, therefore, assured the public of management’s commitment to the eradication of smuggling of migrants and trafficking of persons activities in the country.”
