The National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) has offered oversight manual for security sector in Nigeria.
The oversight manual was unveiled by the Director General of the Institute, Professor Abubakar Sulaiman in Abuja Tuesday at a validation workshop held at the Institute’s headquarters in Piwoyi.
Professor Sulaiman at the Workshop said the manual will serve as a working tool to guide legislators and critical stakeholders in promoting good governance.
According to him, “Any country that is unable to hold its security sector accountable will lead to ineffective oversight of the sector.
He added that oversight of the security sector, involves multiple actors across governmental and nongovernmental institutions.
The head, research, and analysis, National Institute for Security Studies, Professor Ikenna Alumna and chairman, NILDS’ Security Sector oversight Manual Development Committee, Professor Shola Omotola, in their separate remarks said the manual which must capture the realty and peculiarities of the country is long overdue.
They said the document will curb a lot of excesses and excuses for failure to do the needful. impunity, and emplace robust checks and balance in the security sector.
