Nigerians need to dialogue – LP’s women leader

National Women leader of the Labour Party (LP), Barr. Ebere Ifendu, has described those condemning the national conference as “having the problem of nomenclature,” saying that the conference “is a good move by President Goodluck Jonathan as it will benefit Nigerians.”

Speaking exclusively to Blueprint in Abuja, Ifendu said “there is serious need for Nigerians to sit down and dialogue.”
She said: “We must start from somewhere, and I think the problem people have is that of nomenclature. Some said it should have been sovereign national conference, others said it should be something else but what we should be looking at is the quality of people that we are sending to the conference as representatives.”

According her, some Nigerians also condemned the call for constitutional amendment yet it held to the benefit of all, and that there is the need for the country to grab the opportunity before it slips away.
“If we shy away from coming together now, we would not be able to do that any other day so, let’s start from somewhere achieve what we can achieve and continue to build on it.

“It is just like the constitution amendment where some people didn’t want to give women opportunity to succeed but for us as women in politics, we took it up and said we should be part of it and we went as far as visiting the house of reps, our constituency, federal constituency and we were there to make our presentations.”
