Nigerian Navy 2014 conference begins today

Nigerian Navy Chief of Naval Staff Annual Conference for 2014 (CONSAC 2014) is to begin in Lokoja today.
Chief of Policy and Plan (COPP) Rear Admiral Ikioda who said that the theme of this year’s conference is, ‘Transforming for enhanced Nigerian Navy Operational Efficiency,’ noted that global strategic environment is constantly changing with regards to security.

“The contemporary security environment continues to witness new and emerging threats which are constantly evolving. In order, to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing security environment especially in the interconnected maritime environment.  ”
“It is vital that Nigeria Navy pursues a vibrant transformation agenda in line with the overall policy thrust of the Federal Government’s transformation agenda. This would position the Navy to respond adequately to current and emerging security threats in our maritime domain. ”

The COPP said the 5-day event which would include corporate social responsibility of the Nigerian Navy disclosed that the conference would be declare opened by President Goodluck Jonathan.
Rear Admiral  Ameen Ikioda disclosed that the event is an opportunity for the Nigerian Navy to carry out periodic  appraisal of its performance with a view to re-calibrating  its processes and procedures towards improving its overall capacity.
“The CONSAC is basically a forum  for intellectual discourse which brings proven intellectuals and professionals both from within and outside the military together to deliberate on identified challenges of the Navy in order to chart a way for the service.”
