Nigeria urgently needs national security parley, Agoro tells FG

A former presidential candidate of the National Action Council (NAC), Dr Olapade Agoro, on Friday said “Nigeria needs convocation of National Security Parley to fashion out ways of solving series of security challenges presently facing the country.”

Agoro in a statement issued in Ibadan declared that the “present security situation in Nigeria is beyond mere sacking the nation’s security chiefs.”

He emphasised that the “time is now to find lasting solution to the challenges of insecurity in and across the nooks and crannies of the country.”

“Ones best opinion addressing logically, sensibly and reasonably  to finality the current ugly worsening security challenges horribly facing the nation may not be sacking in one fell swoop of the Service Chiefs, since those to replace them may after all be birds of same feathers, but to call for an urgent convocation of a national security parley to debate sincerely address how we got to where we are and how to get out of the mess,” he said.

Agoro said the reported position of President Muhammadu Buhari and his service chiefs after Thursday’s meeting in Abuja clearly showed that “there is need for a national security parley.”

He said for President Buhari to now “express surprise at the level of insecurity across the nation must explain to us that the ship of state is drifting aimlessly to end of no return and needs need collaboration with the larger Nigerian society to deal with the situation.”
