Nigeria Police for counter-terrorism, bomb disposal training in Pakistan

In a bid to meet the challenges of terrorism and other violent crimes in the country personnel of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) are to undergo extensive training on Counter-Terrorism, Counter-Insurgency as well as Bomb Diffusion and Disposal in Pakistan.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Abubakar, disclosed this during a courtesy call on him, by the Pakistani High Commissioner to Nigeria, Lt. Gen. Muhammed Ashraf Saleem (rtd), at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

A press statement by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Mr. Frank Mba, said the IGP announced that the first batch of 10 Nigeria Police Officers would go to Pakistan for extensive training on Counter-Terrorism, Counter-Insurgency as well as Bomb Diffusion and Disposal.

Similarly, the Pakistani Police personnel were also expected in Nigeria to participate in specialised training at the Police Intelligence Institute.

It would be recalled that the IGP had just returned from a-seven day working visit to Pakistan where he had engaged in security discussions on possible areas of collaboration and areas of support for each other.

Earlier, the High Commissioner lauded the initiative, saying that both countries had similar challenges and, therefore, must support each other.
