Calabar

The Bishop of Calabar Diocese, Anglican Communion, His Lordship, Right Reverend Tunde Adeleye, has stated that Nigeria needs restructuring to correct the socio-political and economic inbalance in the country. According to him, restructuring would redress the problems of governance, reduce marginalization, neglect and unfair distribution of wealth. Adeleye, who made the remark at the 2017 Synod Press briefi ng at the Cathedral Church of the Holy Trinity Anglican Communion, Calabar, said following the restructuring foreign policy, currency and defence would be the sole responsibilities of the federal government. Nigeria needs restructuring. We must and should restructure. We cannot continue to go on like this. Th e present structure is simply oppressive. Th e state should have more than they are having, especially those states which produce the main national resources. We must restructure,” he said. He also said that corruption is an endemic problem in Nigeria and a major challenge in our socio-economic and political development, stressing that corruption is refusal to adhere to the laws and norms in our society. “It is fraudulence, dishonesty, illegitimate benefits, bribery, aimed at covering or destroying the truth,” he said and advised Nigerians to start to prepare for the 2019 general elections. He said only people who are selfl ess with a great concern for the welfare of the people and who have fellow feelings and committed to the vision and future of Nigeria should be elected.
