Nigeria better together – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has said Nigeria as a country is better together, saying those calling for its fragmentation do not mean well for the citizenry.

Speaking as a guest of honour at the launch of Kudirat Abiola Peace Foundation held at Ahmadu Bello University Hotels, Zaria on Saturday, the Nigerian president explained that those agitating for the separation of the country ware ignorant of war and its consequences.

The president, represented by the Executive Secretary, Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Alhaji Mohammed Bello Shehu further stated that separation of the country would not help anyone.

Also speaking Kaduna state governor, Mallam Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai, represented by the state Commissioner for Education, Dr Shehu Usman Mohammed, warned that the country had grown beyond separation.

He pointed out that those calling for separation should come back to their senses because Nigerians were spread in every part of the country.

The guest lecturer, Professor Mohammed Tukur Abduljalal in his lecture outlined the way out of the crisis among divergent citizens of the country.

“In as such we want peace to reign amongst us we must tolerate one another and respect our various norms and values.

“There must be a conscious policy to revamp the economy and review security architecture,” he said.

Professor Abduljalal explained that mutual understanding and inter-tribal marriage would also play significant roles in the promotion of peace amongst the citizens.

The varsity don added that community leaders must be involved in the promotion of peace and security in the society.

In his welcome remarks, chairman of the Foundation and one of the children of the late Alhaja Kudirat Olayinka Adayemi Abiola, Alhaji Jami’u Abiodun Abiola said he was happy to be alive to come up with the foundation in memory of his late mother.

He pointed out that at his mother’s death in June 1996, nobody thought he was going to live up to this time, and as such he thanked Almighty Allah  for keeping him alive to promote the ideals of the mother.
