Nigeria Air force speaks on ‘helicopter crash in Kaduna’

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has clarified report that a helicopter belonging to the NAF crashed in the Igabi council of Kaduna.

NAF said one of its drones experienced a mishap after take-off for a mission, at a location near Rumji Village about 15 Km from the Base and there were no casualties on board since it is a drone.

NAF spokesman AVM Edward Gabkwet who made this known in a statement also warned against the spreading of fake news and unconfirmed information.

Gabkwet explained that NAF drone experienced a mishap after take-off for a mission, at a location near Rumji Village and about 15 Km from the Base.

The NAF spokesman however stated that a preliminary investigation has commenced to ascertain the cause of the mishap and assured Nigerians that the minor setback will not, in any way, affect all ongoing operations.

He also warned against hasty reports on the issue, saying while the news of the crash filtered in, some media outlets had misinformed Nigerians that a helicopter had crashed without the decency to clarify from the NAF.

“This attitude should be discouraged as it negates the principle of developmental journalism, balanced reporting and fairness. Members of the media are again advised to always seek clarification from authorized military outlets before rushing to ‘break’ the news,” he said.
