Niger: Troops neutralise bandit leader, 2 soldiers sustain injuries  

A yet to be identified bandit leader operating within Tegina in Rafi local goverment area of Niger state has been neutralised by military personnel.

It was learnt that the bandit leader died Monday morning during a gun duel between the military and his gang.

However, two of the military personnel reportedly sustained bullet injuries and are responding to treatment at the hospital in Minna.

The chairman of Rafi local government area, Alhaji Ayuba Usman Katako, confirmed the incident in a telephone interview with journalists Monday. 

He said, “The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday during a gun duel while one of the suspected bandits believed to be the leader of the criminal gang was neutralised.”

He added that the two soldiers injured in the battle are responding to treatment at IBB Specialised Hospital, Minna.
