Niger to take over Minna airport terminal reconstruction project – Bago

Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger state has expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of work at the reconstruction of the Minna Airport terminal project and has invited the contractors handling it to discuss the possibility of the state government taking over for immediate completion.

The governor stated this on Wednesday during an inspection visit to the ongoing reconstruction of runway and terminal projects at the Minna Airport.

He stressed the need for speedy completion of the projects to allow the airport resume full operations with immediate effect, adding that the government has opened talks with private airline operators with a view to commencing commercial flight operation in the state.

He said, “I am concerned over the slow pace of work on the terminal, therefore the state government will invite the contractor and see how we will take over the project for immediate completion.

“We believe that the completion of the terminal will set the ball rolling for the state to commence commercial flight operation in the state.

“We want to invite the contractor to see how we can intervene and if possible take over the job so that we can have a terminal and functional airport. Our desire is to provide commercial flights and we are talking to some private airline operators to come to Niger state.”

The contractor handling the runway project assured that it would be ready for aircraft to land on as from the 16th of this month.
