The Society for Family Health (SFH) has commenced the distribution of 3.6m long lasting insecticidal nets in Niger state under auspices the National Malaria Elimination Programme.

The SFH programme coordinator for Niger state, Denen Daniel, stated this Tuesdday at a media orientation on the distribution of mosquito nets in the state.

He explained that every household would be entitled to a maximum of 4 nets adding that officials will visit each household to register beneficiaries and issued net cards which must be made available at designated points for collection of nets.

He also explained that students in boarding will be captured in this exercise adding that mechanism has been put in place to ensure accountability and prudency in the distribution exercise in the state.

He said, “ over 95% of cases in hospitals are Malaria cases, it is therefore necessary to work hard towards elimination of malaria in the country. The use of long lasting insecticidal nets is the most effective way to avoid malaria because the mosquito vector of the disease will not have contact with you”.

He said that SFH has lined up activities towards ensuring successful distribution of the nets in the the 25 local governments of state adding that the programme will be flagged off on Thursday in Minna.
