The Niger state House of Assembly has promised to give priority attention to the list of 17 commissioner-nominees transmitted to it by Governor Abubakar Sani Bello to fast track good governance.
The list of the commissioner-nominees, sent to the House for screening and approval, was made available to journalists Tuesday after the speaker of the Assembly, Barr Abdullahi Bawa Wuse, made it public at plenary.
The list showed that eight of the nominees served in the first tenure of the administration, including former commissioner for finance, Zakari Abubakar and former commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Alhaji Zakari Jikantoro.
Others in the former cabinet also nominated included Alhaji Ibrahim Panti, Hajiya Ramatu Yar’Adua, Mustapha Jibrin Haruna Dukku and Mamman Musa.
The speaker assured that the Assembly will give priority to the screening of the nominees to enhance government activities in the state.
He urged members of the Assembly to consider the screening of the nominees as not only a constitutional duty but a call to serve the state, adding that the lawmakers should consider themselves as partners in progress with the other arms of government.
The list of the 18 nominated special advisers was, however, not attached to the approval request by the governor to the Assembly.
