The All Progressive Congress (APC) has elected the 2011 deputy governorship candidate of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Engr Mohamed Imam Gawu, as the new chairman of the state executive committee in a keenly contested congress at the weekend in Minna.
Gawu polled 1,142 votes to defeat nine other contestants in the results announced yesterday by the Chairman of the state congress committee, Barrister Usman Dahaltu Batagarawa, and his secretary, Comrade Sabo Mohamed, while Alhaji Tanko Baba Ahmed was elected as secretary with 1228 votes.
Blueprint learnt that 29 positions were filled in the congress, including those of state Assistant Secretary won by Barrister Lawal Yusuf; while Haruna Koroka emerged as zonal vice chairman 1.
Others included Jonathan Tsoho Vatsa who was elected as the PRO of the party; Dr. Abdulsalam Shafi as treasurer and Hajiya Fati Mustapha won the position of women leader.
In his remarks, the chairman of the congress committee, Barrister Batagarawa, thanked the delegates for the peaceful conduct of the election, saying that the Congress was devoid of rancour and protest as against the incident of last week that led to its postponement.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected chairman, Engr. Mohamed Gawu promised to bring all aggrieved parties together in ensuring the unity of the party.
He said the APC was ready to work assiduously for its success in the 2015 general elections, adding that he would reconcile party members towards achieving a common goal in the general elections.
Blueprint learnt that the new state executive committee members would be sworn-in by the national leaders this week.
