NGOs to build female students’ capacity on entrepreneurship, agriculture

The Association of Nigerian Female Students (ANFS),) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Girl for leadership, politics and government (G4LP) and African Women Economic Development.

The collaboration is to train Nigerian female students on sustainable agricultural development through expansion, enhancement and demonstration of sustainable farming practice in Nigeria and increase farm yields for food security by adopting students-farmers training.

It is also expected to focus on inputs subsidy for the top priority crops like Rice, Cassava, Maize, Soya beans, Yam etc as well as build capacity in women and prepare them for leadership positions and entrepreneurship.

Part of their mandate is to mainstream the girl child and young leaders in government and entrepreneurship at all levels, with core interest of protecting the dignity and integrity of the female gender and prepare them to excel in leadership and entrepreneurship within the framework of sustainable development in Nigeria and beyond.

Speaking after the signing ceremony, ANFS President, Princess Ominiyi, assured the Foundations of a hitch free partnership just as she commended them for their relentless efforts to impact the society positively.

Omoniyi urged female students to be productive and develop themselves so as not to become liabilities to society as a result of gender discrimination.

“We are Nigerian female Students, we constitute the largest percentage of the Nigerian population and we are capable of changing the status quo and Nigerian girl child will reclaim her lost glory as the hope of the Nation” she said.

The Executive Director, Girl for leadership, politics and government (G4LP), Mrs Ruby Ross, and African women economic development, Mr Lugard Okonobo, commended the Association’s new leadership for their courage and the passion to take the association to a new height.

They further appreciated the ANFS President-elect and her executives for the giant stride taken to enhance the welfare of female students as they promised to give their best for a greater girl child.
