Newly appointed NAF spokesman assumes office, seeks media support

The newly appointed spokesman of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Air Commodore Olusola Akinboyewa, has assumed office.

Akinboyewa assumed his role on Tuesday, after receiving the handover documents in a brief ceremony at NAF Headquarters in Abuja.

During the ceremony, Akinboyewa sought media support to effectively deliver on his new role.

“I’m open to advice; please call or message me anytime,” he said. “We must work together to ensure peace, security, and safety for all Nigerians,” he said.

Despite the challenges, Akinboyewa expressed confidence in his ability to succeed, citing the guidance of the Chief of Air Staff and his senior colleagues.

Outgoing spokesman, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, now Director of Coordination and Cooperation at NAF Civil-Military Relations Branch, urged defense correspondents to extend their support to Akinboyewa.

Gabkwet emphasized the spokesman’s critical role in showcasing NAF’s activities and contributions to national security, particularly amidst Nigeria’s current security challenges.

Defense correspondent, Molly Kilete, cautioned Akinboyewa to expect tough inquiries from journalists, reminding him that their role is not to promote NAF’s image but to hold them accountable.

Akinboyewa, a member of the 43rd Regular Combatant Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and a Master’s degree in Security and Strategic Studies from NDA. Previously, he served as Commandant of NAF’s Air Traffic Services Training Centre in Kaduna.
