The newly appointed Vice Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Professor Bernard Odoh, Tuesday, assumed office with a promise to enforce discipline, improve infrastructure, power supply and others for effective teaching and learning.
Odoh, who was appointed as 7th substantive Vice Chancellor of the citadel of learning on October 29, at inaugural address after a church service, said he would not only live in the campus but also provide and improve students and staff welfare including accommodation, security, power supply, access roads and other amenities.
“We estimate a ₦70 billion investment for these initiatives over the next five years, with funding from tuition, partnerships and grants. Our funding and partnership committee will prioritise public-private partnerships (PPP) in raising ₦10 billion. We target ₦5 billion in grants by 2028 through strategic collaborations,” he added.
The Vice Chancellor further dismissed all the claims against the processes leading to his emergence, because according to him, it followed due process, hence the need for any aggrieved person or groups to sheath their swords and rally round the administration.
He also urged support of the university community to position UNIZIK as among the top fifty in the world having known their challenges as an alumnus, adding that he would lead with humility and kindness but would never tolerate indiscipline.
Earlier, Professor Kenneth Nwogu from the university’s Faulty of Law, passed a vote of confidence on him on behalf of other staff, assuring that they would support him to move the institution to an enviable heights.
