New twist in Gombe politics as Mailantarki set to join PDP Saturday

In a move that could reshape Gombe state’s political landscape, a former governorship candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Khamisu Mailantarki, is reportedly set to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Saturday.

This development followed Mailantarki’s resignation from the NNPP in July, after a vigorous campaign in the 2023 gubernatorial race where he finished third, trailing behind Governor Muhammadu Yahaya of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Mohammed Jibrin Barde of the PDP.

Mailantarki, a seasoned politician and two-term member of the House of Representatives, has yet to formally align with a new party since his departure from the NNPP.

However, reliable sources indicated he would declare his membership with the PDP at an event in Gombe, signaling a potential shift in political dynamics ahead of future elections.

Political analysts in Gombe see Mailantarki’s anticipated defection as a boost to the PDP, which is strengthening its base in anticipation of a robust challenge to the ruling APC in upcoming elections.

“His move could attract his supporters and reshuffle alliances, adding a new dimension to the political strategies in Gombe.

“Mailantarki’s entrance into the PDP brings additional experience and support to the party, making him a formidable figure as the party gears up to consolidate power.”

Gombe political watchers are waiting to see how the development would influence the broader political narrative, especially considering Mailantarki’s solid followership base and influence in the state.
