The police at New Nyanaya under Karu Division in Nasarawa state, this week, engaged armed robbers in a gun battle that lasted for hours and ended up in their favour as they arrested three of the bandits, recovered stolen items with huge sums of hard currency.
The police, Blueprint learnt, had received a distress call that robbers were operating at Ado, a nearby settlement, they quickly dispatched their team made up of surveillance men, and getting to the scene, they engaged the men of the underworld.

Police sources disclosed that as the scene was going on, more distress calls were pouring in from different directions of the town.
A source told Blueprint in confidence that “they were many of them operating simultaneously; they moved to capital gate Ado at the place there were victims, some of whom came with injuries; when the situation was getting out of hand soldiers were alerted because they have a station at Ado.”

The source said: “While efforts were made to counter them, there was another distress call that they were strange movement in one of the hotels around there, we instructed our men to move into the hotel because we were able to get the description of the rooms and the hotel was condoned. The efforts to open the door was resisted which gave us insight that the suspects were there. They were trying to break the ceiling and started jumping from three storey building. In course of that a lady out of the two ladies among the five robbers was flown out from the ceiling, she fell down and had facture on her left leg and was arrested.”
When contacted, the DPO, CSP Mercy Okoro, declined comments and referred our correspondent to the PPRO of the command.
