New Lions Club president calls for sustainable food bank

The 15th president of the Abuja Metropolitan Lions Club, Lion Oluyomi David Coker, has called for expanded efforts in building a sustainable food bank that will cater for the vulnerable in the community.

He made the call at the weekend while delivering acceptance speech and taking over as the 15th president at an investiture ceremony in Abuja.

Lion Coker said, “With understanding of social demands and the notable struggles by families, it is our desire to expand our efforts in building a sustainable food bank. Hunger remains a persistence challenge in our community and no one should have to worry about where their next meal will come from.

“Our food bank initiative will provide nourishment and hope to the most vulnerable amongst us. By establishing partnerships with local businesses, donors, and volunteers, we will ensure that families facing food insecurity have access to nutritious meals with the primary intent of restoring dignity and offering a helping hand to those in difficult circumstances,” he stated.

Coker expressed confidence that this can be achieved with all hands on deck, saying, “Our strength lies in our unity, our passion for service and our unwavering commitment to making a positive impact.”

He solicited continued support from all and sundry, pointing out that everyone has a unique role to play and that it is through collective efforts that success will be achieved.

Coker further said he believes in the power of service and the blessings it commands. “This new chapter presents another opportunity to improve society and humanity in general and with close consultation with my team, we have identified three focal areas to cover education, hunger relief and health care.

Earlier in her valedictory speech, outgoing president of the club, Lion Salamatu Yahaya Bello, said the past year has been an incredible journey marked by challenges, achievements and countless moments of mutual trust and friendship among people who spend a lot of time together in service to humanity.
