‘New Bauchi varsity will reduce illiteracy drastically’

The new Bauchi State University, Gadau, will drastically mitigate the rate of illiteracy and concomitantly solve the problem of non-pursuit of higher education by the teeming youth in the state due to either financial or other challenges.

Chairman of the youths’ group, Bauchi Volunteers Forum, Alhaji Danladi O.C. Kwano, stated this yesterday while addressing newsmen in Bauchi shortly after the group’s inspection visit to the university main campus at Itas Gadau local government area.

He said: “Before the establishment of this unprecedented institution, many of our youths who finished secondary schools do not proceed to anywhere. The reason why they do not proceed is because some of them are poor, they can’t pay registration fees but with the establishment of this university, I think all and sundry would now have access to university education.”

The politician pointed out that although the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) is located in the state, “only few students go there because it is a university of technology, while the new state university is conventional which runs both the sciences and social sciences thereby giving opportunity to all students to enroll into it.”
