As a way of aligning with the evolving challenges and international best practices, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) is charting a bold new course with the development of a Strategic Development Plan.
According to the press statement issued Friday by the Head of Press Unit of the Agency, Mr. Ezekiel Manzo, the Director-General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, disclosed this while declaring open a Stakeholders’ Validation Workshop for the plan.
She also disclosed that it’s the first time ever that the Agency had taken the bold step to develop such a document and that it would cover the period from 2025 to 2029.
She noted that the process of developing the strategic plan had been consultative, evidence-informed, adding that it was necessitated by the “urgent realities facing our country-from climate-related disasters, insecurity, displacement, and public health emergencies to the increasing demand for effective coordination and accountability in our humanitarian efforts.”
She affirmed her commitment to strengthening the Agency’s operational capacity and efficiency for proactive response to the nation’s pressing challenges, “such as climate-induced disasters, insecurity, displacement, and public health emergencies.”
The workshop featured presentations from the Director of Human Resources Management, Dr. Umesi Emenike, and active contributions from NEMA Directors and key disaster management stakeholders.
