NEMA, Red Cross, others assess flood impact in ONELGA 

Following the ravaging flood in Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni local government area of Rivers state, the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), United Nations International Organisation for Migration (Un IOM), and the Red Cross Society have visited the area to ascertain the numbersof displaced people and health challenges facing the people among others.

Chief of Staff to the chairman ONELGA, Dr. Orie Maduabuchukwu John, who represented the council chairman, Hon. Prince Isaac Umejuru, led the delegation of the various organisations to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps at Egbema and Ndoni zones on Saturday. 

The on-the-spot assessment revealed that, thousands of people from Egbema and Ndoni were displaced as the victims pleaded with NEMA to attend to their health and food needs.

The representative of NEMA, who led the delegation, Mr. Chidi Ogundu said, “The perennial flood is a natural disaster that has affected the livelihood of our people, more especially ONELGA. Children, mothers and the elderly no longer have access to clean water and good living conditions.”

The NEMA official lauded the chairman of the council, Hon. Prince Isaac Umejuru for making the welfare of the flood victims a topmost priority. 

Chief of Staff of the council chairman, Dr. Maduabuchukwu said “This government has spent millions of Naira to set up IDP camps, buy food, sleeping materials, drugs and distributed same to the victims of the flooding menace.”

He expressed the resolve and commitment of Prince Isaac Umejuru led administration to continue to support the flood victims, describing the chairman as a compassionate leader.
