NDLP chair wants acting INEC boss to re-register deregistered political parties

National Chairman of the deregistered National Democratic Liberty Party (NDLP) and former presidential aspirant on the platform of the defunct Social Democratic Party( SDP), Alhaji Umaru Muhammadu Maizabura, has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to direct the acting chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Hajia Amina Zakari, to revisit the issue of political parties that were deregistered by her predecessor to enable them participate in the 2019 general elections.
He made the plea in a chat with newsmen in Maiduguri, pointing out that the proscription was a negation of the principles of freedom of association as enshrined in the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria.

Maizabura argued that his party was duly registered with branches in virtually all states of the federation, including the FCT, and wondered where it faulted to warrant being deregistered and appealed to the acting INEC boss to tamper justice with mercy.
He said: “If my party is re-registered it will afford us the opportunity to actualise our ambition by offering sterling leadership qualities and development of our nascent democracy.”The NDLP top-shot said his party had all it “takes to be registered,” adding that he was not appropriately notified about his party’s proscription as he was  away on holy pilgrimage to Mecca and only heard it on the airwaves.

He said the decision was ill conceived and prayed INEC to revisit the matter as it would provide a platform to actively contribute their quota in politics.
He said the party had a wide followership across the country and that “it will be unfair if our right is jettisoned by INEC.”
