NDE trains 60 youths on vocational, technical skills in Ogun

The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has commenced community-based training scheme for 60 youths through the Vocational Skills Development (VSD) department of the directorate in Ogun state.          

This Director-General of the NDE, Mallam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo, flagged off the training, Wednesday, in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital.

The NDE boss represented by the directorate’s Coordinator in Ogun, Oshinowo Kehinde Ajoke, asserted that the training was a step in the right direction as it will equip the beneficiaries with the knowledge and necessary skills to make a positive impact in the country.

The state coordinator said the agency is at the forefront of eradicating and reducing poverty by providing jobs for all age groups and social classes as long as they fall within the unemployed category.

“Through this scheme, trainees will be engaged in trades such as leather works, computer and catering services. This training is not just about getting something done, it is also about instilling a sense of responsibility and self dependence in each participants”, she said

The VSD director  Mallam Isa Abdu, who was represented by Bilqisu Jimada enjoined the trainees to consider themselves lucky to be among thousands of interested unemployed persons in the state, while noting that the NDE interventions have assisted the Nation in reducing the scourge of poverty in Nigeria. 

In the same vein, the head of VSD, Ogun state, Owoduni Samuel, noted that the training scheme is for a duration of three months, while adding that the directorate has employed trainers from each of the 20 Local Government with minimum of 3 trainees to one trainer.

In her remarks, the Commander, NDLEA Ogun State Command, C.N Ibiba Jane Odili, charged the participants on the danger of drug abuse, adding that addiction to drugs can affect learning.

The commander was represented by her deputy Commander, Ifeoma Eucheria, who was once a beneficiary of the NDE program in 1987.
