The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) Monday flagged off the 2024 Sustainable Agricultural Development Training Scheme (SADTS) for 50 unemployed youth in Nasarawa state.
Flagging off the programme, in Lafia, NDE director general, Malam Abubakar Fikpo, said the essence of the scheme was to ensure that Nasarawa citizens are self sustaining through agricultural business.
The director general was represented by the Nasarawa state coordinator of NDE, Mr. Chris Bamsida. He said NDE attaches very high premium on the initiative due to its multiplier effect for increased job creation.
He added that the scheme will provide the participants the opportunity to acquire knowledge required to set up their agribusinesses.
He also urged them to see the gesture as a rare opportunity.
He said: “Remember that with the training, you will be empowered in modern agricultural activities including off-farm activities and life skills to be able to overcome the challenges of your immediate environment.
The DG reaffirmed that NDE will continue to do its best in addressing the challenges of unemployment in the country.
The Nasarawa state coordinator, National Productivity Centre, Mrs. Mojisola Imosun, stated that the initiative was in line with the President Bola Tinubu Administration priority areas which is focused on job creation.
She called on the participants to give the programme all the necessary attention and ensure that they step down the knowledge acquired at the training to other rural farmers in the state to achieve the desired objectives.
