Ndace to Reps: I’m committed to mandate, vision of founding fathers of VON

The Director General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), Mallam Jibrin Baba Ndace, has restated his commitment to achieving the mandate and vision of the Voice of Nigeria (VON).

Ndace stated this Tuesday when he received members of the House of Representatives Committee on Information, National Orientation, Ethics and Values led by its chairman Hon. Steven Olusola Fatoba who visited VON for oversight function.

“I want to assure you that as director general I am committed to the mandate and vision of founding fathers of VON,” he said.

Ndace said he has worked hard with his management team to reposition the organization through partnerships in order to reach its audience on both digital and terrestial platforms.

“Since I assumed office I have activated old partnerships and entered into new ones as part of efforts to reposition the organization.

“In building media landscape you have to understand the dynamics of the environment in which you operate. I understand that despite the advent of technology, there are communities in Nigeria and Africa that still depend on terrestrial platforms for information.

“Since I came on board I have worked hard with my management team to ensure that we reactivate one of our terrestial transmitters in Lugbe, Federal Capital Territory.

“I am very determined to work with the template set by the minister of information and national orientation to restore trust to public communication in Nigeria.

“I am also determined working with my team to fight fake news and misinformation about our country. We would be unapologetic in telling Nigerian and African stories,” he said.

Ndace also soliced for increased budgetary allocation from the national assembly to enable VON meet its mandate.

“I look forward to you visiting our facilities in Lugbe and Lagos. We cannot much without your support. I am happy that since you came onboard because of your understanding of the place of information in the 21st century you you have given us maximum support.

“No country can be repositioned if its information management system that is supposed to be a buffer is not well funded,” he said.

In his remarks Fatoba assured that the committee and the House of Representatives will provide all the support needed the revitalise VON.
