NCPC boss urges Christian leaders to fund pilgrimage

Executive Secretary, Nigeria Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Rev. Tor Uja, has called on Christian leaders and “those who are blessed with the resources” to fund pilgrimage and the Commission’s activities.

He made the call during a recent dinner and awards night organised by the Commission at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja.

Uja appealed to the privileged ones to assist in sponsoring the weaker or the less privileged ones instead of asking for free tickets to travel to the Holy Land.

“I want to appeal to Christian leaders, who have the means, to sponsor Christian pilgrimage and to even fund NCPC’s activities.

“They should help us fund our camp construction, help us build some of our infrastructure and help us also to establish safe houses in Greece and Rome,” he said.

He said the Commission was committed to drawing out pilgrimage programmes that would “refocus pilgrimage, make it engaging, enterprising and effective in building a new spiritual, and mental framework.”

NCPC boss said the Commission was presenting awards of excellence to board members, staff, service providers and stakeholders for their distinguished and outstanding commitment to excellence, integrity and leadership to making pilgrimage exercise a success.

Awards categories include NCPC Outstanding staff awards, Distinguished Pilgrimage Leadership Award, Best Outstanding Pilgrimage Service Providers Award, Outstanding Support to Pilgrimage Award, Outstanding Support to Pilgrimage Award and Distinguished Pilgrimage Development Support Award.

Senator David Mark bagged the Outstanding Support to Pilgrimage award, while the Best Group Sponsor of Pilgrimage award was presented to Dr. (Mrs.) Stella Okoli and Chikason Group of Companies, Nnewi.

Distinguished Pilgrimage Development Support Award was presented to Senator Monsurat J. A. Sunmonu and Nnena Elendu-Ukeje.

Governor Umaru Bindow Jibrilla of Adamawa state was awarded the Pilgrimage Governor of the Year for his outstanding support to pilgrimage, and Dr. Samuel Ortom, the Benue state governor, was presented the Friend of Pilgrimage and NCPC award.

The dinner and awards night attracted many distinguished dignitaries, stakeholders, members of staff of the Commission, friends and well-wishers across the country.
