NCDC to Nigerians: Report suspected Lassa fever cases in time

As a result of the recent outbreak of Lassa fever in Lagos state, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has disclosed that contact identifi cation and tracking had been initiated, and case management had begun for other confi rmed cases. Th e Centre added that the federal government had provided resources including medical supplies to support case management in the State. NCDC, in a press statement at the weekend, revealed that two persons have been killed and a doctor infected at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).

“It’s about the 49th week of the disease breakout in the country and 113 deaths have been recorded, while a total of 689 suspected cases have been reported as at 31st week of 2017,” the statement added. Th e centre advised Nigerians to be more vigilant, maintain good hygiene, keep food items away from rodents, wash hands regularly and not hesitate to report any suspected case to the Centre, using the tool free lines: 0800- 970000-10, SMS 08099555577, WhatsApp 07087110839 and Twitter/Facebook: @NCDCgov.
