NBTE tasks Kogi government on funding of NKFI, assures full accreditation of programmes

The Executive Secretary , National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Professor Idris Muhammad Bugaje, has called on Kogi state government to prioritize the funding of Nigeria – Korea Friendship Institute to enable youth acquires skills that will make them self-reliance.

Professor Bugaji made the call on Thursday when he led NBTE accreditation team for facilities inspection ahead of accreditation of courses at Nigeria – Korea Friendship Institute (NKFI) of vocational and advance technology in Lokoja , Kogi state capital.

Represented by Engineer Jafar Garba, the Executive Secretary expressed satisfaction with the kind of modern equipment abound in the institute, saying the school has enormous potential for training Nigerians youth to be self reliance as well as becoming employers of labour.

“If the institute is well funded and the management heed to our advise the institution will attain a great height because today in this country there are a lot of youth roaming the street without jobs and many of them are graduate of universities , polytechnics and college of education without skills to engage them.

“Fortunately this institute by virtue of the equipment we saw and the quality and numbers of staff in the school, I am optimistic and convinced that the institute has the capacity to provide skills for Nigerian youth and the resultant effect of this will be eradication insecurity and youth restiveness associated with lack of jobs and unemployment” he said.

Speaking on the accreditation of courses in the institution, Engr. Garba stated that both the resource personnel, curriculum and equipment of the institution are of high standards and have sufficiently met the NBTE requirement, assuring that there would be no delay in approval and accreditation of the courses offered in the school.

He expressed worries over the low enrollment in the school, saying the massive equipment and up-to-date instructors have been under-utilised and called on the parents and students to embrace technical and vocational education for self-reliance.

While calling on the State Government to prioritize the funding and expansion of the institute , Engr. Garba stated that there is no state in the country that has a well equipped technical institute like NKFI located in Kogi State.

The Rector of the institute Williams Charles Oluwatoyin in his remarks, expressed appreciation to the State Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello for his effort toward the accreditation process of the institution.

He commended the management and the accreditation team of NBTE for coming to inspect the facilities in the school and solicited their support for the granting of the accreditation.
